Why Seeking Knowledge and Growth is Being a Loving Warrior for Yourself

#nonprofitmarketing loving warriors moxie week 2024 self-love Feb 12, 2024

We started calling nonprofit and purpose-driven professionals ‘Loving Warriors’ because we know they fight invisible battles of love every day. We know they are often battle-worn from long hours and limited resources as they wage their crusade to make the world a better place for everyone in it.

Yet while many of us, as purpose-driven people, recognize the inherent value and importance of being Loving Warriors for others, we often forget or overlook the inherent value and importance of being Loving Warriors for ourselves, too.

Every time we get aboard an airplane, one of the first things the flight attendants remind us of is that in the event of an emergency, we need to put on our own oxygen masks first before we assist others. If we cannot breathe, we are not as capable of helping those around us. If we help ourselves first, however, we can then aid every single person who may need it within our reach.

There are many ways you can be a Loving Warrior for yourself to ensure that your cup is always overflowing. It might be as simple as giving yourself permission to take a break or to go on a walk. It could be practicing self-care and self-love. It also could be through seeking knowledge.

While making and taking time for learning opportunities can sometimes feel challenging because of the time investment it often requires, it’s important to remember that it is, indeed, an investment. Through learning, you are investing in yourself.

Learning is an investment in time. How many times have we spent hours on a project simply because we didn’t know what we were doing? In a fast-paced, digital world where new and advancing technologies are presenting themselves constantly, it’s common that tasks we have been doing manually or the same way for 5-10 years can now be automated or completed through a much more effective means. By taking 30 minutes to learn a new tool or skill, you may take hours away from tasks in the future because you’ve discovered a more efficient and sustainable practice.

Learning is an investment in money. Imagine if you didn’t know how to cook, so every day you ran out to a local fast food or other restaurant establishment to eat instead. The amount of money you would spend through outsourcing knowledge would add up quickly compared if you learned the skills in order to cook for yourself.

And finally, learning is an investment in growth. Through gaining new knowledge and learning new skills, you grow as an individual and as a professional. New pathways and opportunities can present themselves to you because you have more to bring to the table.

We want to help you invest in yourself, which is why we created a special weeklong celebration of self-love through learning that we call Moxie Week. This week, from February 12-16, 2024, we are opening our digital classroom to all Loving Warriors. We hope that through our weeklong series of free webinars, we can not only help you reach as many people as possible and create for the highest good but also present you with an accessible opportunity to seek knowledge and growth.

We hope to see you there.
